The Eve of War

The Eve of WarThe Eve of War by Rae Gee

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give 4.5 stars to this awesome read, the next installment in the Veetu Industries series.

The time of war is coming ever closer. Cedo, Billy, Erus, and Francis have returned from Dynasty and have started preparing for what is to come. Cedo is still torn between his love for Billy and his love for his master as well as longing for freedom. The three characters have really evolved since Mars on the Rise and likewise their relationships with each other. Erus is even more accepting of Billy and things definitely heat up.

We see more world building as well in this installment. Erus and Cedo travel to London to help plan for the coming war. While there we see life in the city as well as the social stigma against those who are different or live outside the mainstream of society.

There's a lot that happens with war preparation, its relevant to any society or time frame: men are called up to fight, governments do things they shouldn't in the name of progress, people lose those they love. All these things are very present in this read.

This is a great next installment to a great series. Its best to read it in succession to get the feel for the relationships and what is happening at this point. Love it! Can't wait for the next one.

Mate of the Tsatrya

Mate of the TsatryaMate of the Tsatrya by Ann T. Ryan

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The premise behind Mate of the Tsatrya is all about angels and demons: an angel was seduced by a demon and produced the Tsatrya. That sounds like an awesome story. Why did we not get that story? But instead, all these millennia later, we get this story about a guy who falls in love with a Tsatrya leader. The story surrounds the love story between Joseph and Mykael and there is very little world building to go along with it.

The characters of Joseph and Mykael are ok characters. Joseph is human and has never considered himself to be homosexual but finds himself in love with Mykael. But he doesn't dwell on this as a personal issue, he gets passed it pretty easily (too easily to be believed.) Mykael is a very strong character, used to doing what he wants when he wants and is very dominant. Likewise, the sex scenes with Mykael and Joseph were also pretty one sided and mostly the same. (view spoiler) Also, the side characters are there but not really important to the story. They could have added much more to it.

It all left me with a lot of questions. Questions about their history and their world as well as the stories of Jess and Gilliam. Overall, it was an ok read but had the potential to be much more.

Beguiled (Enlightenment #2)

Beguiled (Enlightenment, #2)Beguiled by Joanna Chambers

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Beguiled picks up two years after Provoked leaves off. David is preparing for the Kings visit and runs into Lord Balfour at the tailor. The feelings between them are like two years have never passes. David has done a bit of growing up over these two years however, and his reaction to Lord Balfour are not as filled with self loathing as they were previously.

Filled with romance and a great storyline, this one will grab you from the beginning and keep you interested til the very end. Its not all about the romance tho, there is a bit of intrigue and a damsel in distress that needs saving. We also are filled in on what's been going on during the two years they've been apart as well as more of David's background.

Overall, a great read and some very hot scenes but no so many as to take away from the story. I loved the ending and can't wait to continue with the next part.

Provoked

Provoked (Enlightenment, #1)Provoked by Joanna Chambers

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a great historical fiction. Set in a time when it was not in any way acceptable to be gay and it was also a crime. David is an honorable man that was brought up to believe that his inclinations for other men were shameful and unnatural. He meets Lord Balfour one night and has an encounter he can't forget. Balfour is a man that accepts who he is and is determined to have everything out of life that is possible, including a family. However, he can't seem to move past their chance meeting as well.

There's more to this great read besides that very hot encounters between David and Balfour. There's also a great plot complete with spies, intrigue, and assassination attempts. The inner turmoil that David deals with is also a big part of this book and you feel for this character as he deals with these issues.

Overall, I loved this one and can't wait to continue with the next in this series. It is one for those over 18 as the scenes between David and Balfour definitely heat things up. If you enjoy M/M and historical romance you should give this series a try.

Eight Second Cowboy

Eight Second CowboyEight Second Cowboy by Piper Kay

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

There are things I both like and dislike about this book. I would probably give it 3.5 stars but thanks to some really hot sex scenes I bumped it up to 4 stars.

Matt and Lance are bitter rivals on the rodeo circuit. And this is mainly because they are both attracted to each other and are trying to fight it. But after finally admitting it to themselves and each other they decide to see where things lead. Matt is having a much harder time coming to terms with his sexuality and their relationship and is constantly pushing Lance away. This leads to a lot of tension and drama between the two.

There were only a few issues I had with the book. The dialogue seemed a bit off. Maybe its because I don't read many western/cowboy books. But it just didn't seem natural to me. The other thing was while the sex scenes were really hot they seemed to belong to a couple that was much more experienced with m/m sex than these two characters were. Having said that the scenes were still really hot and while reading them I didn't really care that it didn't fit the characters. ;)

Overall, if you enjoy a hot m/m romance (especially with hot cowboys) you might want to pick this one up. Definitely for those over.

See the Light

See the LightSee the Light by Cassandra Carr

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is a VERY HOT M/M erotica that mixes sports and erotica. I'm not one for reading about sports but the erotica side of this was so good its easy to overlook.

Patrick is older than Jason and is also an adviser to the hockey team that he plays for. Jason is on the Olympic team when he meets Patrick and both and not only instantly attracted to each other but very much in the closet. Unable to fight against their attraction they find that their relationship is going farther than they had anticipated.

Not only is this book full of hot steamy scenes, but it has a more serious side as well. Its not full of bigotry and small mindedness, but shows the internal struggles that the characters have over their situation. Patrick feels conflicted because he is in a position of Jason's adviser on the team. Both know that coming out could seriously damage their career.

Overall, I LOVED this read. If you enjoy a good, steamy M/M then you should read this one. Its a short read but full of all the good stuff. I can't wait to read more from this author.

Selling Mars

Selling Mars (Veetu Industries, #2)Selling Mars by Rae Gee

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a free copy of this book for my honest review.

I enjoyed this book as much as the first one in this series, Mars on the Rise. Selling Mars continues the story of Cedo and Billy after they have discovered that Erus is still alive and being held in a far off enemy country. Billy has nursed Cedo thru his grief and upun discovering Erus is alive they decide they must rescue him. What follows is an adventure not only physically but emotionally and sexually as well.

There is so much going on in this book. There all all the elements of steampunk as well as hot M/M romance. There is also alot of emotional turmoil as Cedo is torn between his love for Billy and his loyalty to his master. He feels so torn in two as he wishes to hurt neither of them but love them both in different ways. The characters themselves are very alive and, like all of us, flawed. There are jealousies and anger and resentment that naturally comes with love triangles. Even though its told from Cedo's point of view, we feel the pain of Billy as he tries to understand the hold that Erus has on Cedo.

Loved the ending! I won't spoil it, but I will say that its definitely a cliffhanger. Want to know more!

This book is definitely not for everyone as there are scenes of violence and M/M sex (definitely for those over 18). I recommend that you read the first book in this series first as Selling Mars picks up right where Mars on the Rise leaves off. But if you like steampunk and M/M romance this is a series you should read. Loved it!

Uncommon Whore

An Uncommon WhoreAn Uncommon Whore by Belinda McBride

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

In a word: Awesome! This is the story of Pasha who is a slave with no memory of who he was before. He has been sold into the servitude of a humanoid who uses him to support his gambling addiction. In the begining he sees a man in the bar that his heart recognizes even if his mind doesn't.

The story is told wonderfully from the perspective of Pasha. We see thru his eyes as he finds his life long friend and love and comes to know who he truly is and why his is an uncommon whore. I love the flow of this book as the story slowly unfolds as Pasha's memories return. He comes to remember who he is and what happened to him. He then has to learn the fate of his people and what has happened to those his loves. The sex is definitely hot and only serves to add to the story instead of the story only being about the sex. The story is more about love, relationships, and overcoming hardships.

I would recommend this to anyone that loves sci/fi erotica with a bit of spice and definitely only for those over 18. Loved it!
