About Rick Chiantaretto

1005771_573547986029946_976679398_n

I've often been accused of having done more in my life than the average 30 year old, but if I were completely honest I'd have to tell you my secret: I'm really 392.

So after all this time, I'm a pretty crappy writer.

I have one book published but out of print, one coming out soon, and a bunch half written (when you have eternity, where's the reason to rush?). I've been favorably reviewed by horror greats like Nancy Kilpatrick, and my how-to-write-horror articles have been quoted in scholarly (aka community college freshmen's) papers.

I enjoy the occasional Bloody Mary, although a Bloody Kathy or Susan will suffice.

Mostly, I just try to keep a low profile so people don't figure out who I REALLY am.

What would you do if your vacation cruise ship was attacked and you knew you were going to be killed?

Would you fight? Would you hide? Would you try to escape?

This international thriller/contemporary fantasy is a nail-biting ride that is grisly but somewhat tongue-in-cheek, a brutal tale of horror and the occult that doesn't take itself too seriously. It includes romance, continental adventure, action, suspense, and dozens of vivid characters from around the world.

Tethered Release Day Blitz

Tethered Cover

Title: Tethered

Author: Brandi Leigh Hall

New Adult/Upper Young Adult Urban Fantasy

What if the life you were born into, was never really yours to begin with?

I’ve never felt normal in my own skin. Like an oversized pair of UGG boots, nothing about my life fits the way it should. At least, not the way I’d like it to. I was born a Witch, with an ability I despise. And I’d do anything to give it back. But how do you return a “gift” that came with no card? I learned long ago—visions are one thing—you can never send back.

For six years, I’ve been an in-the-closet Seer, desperate to escape the murderous vision that ruined my childhood, and the Wiccan family I tore apart in the process. But I can no longer deny who I am.
Something terrible awaits those I love. Something big.

I’ve only seen bits and pieces, but I know I’m meant to move back home to save them. And who’s the tall, dark and delicious mystery guy in this vision with my family? He kisses me with more tenderness than I’ve ever known, yet I can’t tell how he makes me feel. Are we in love, or is it just a physical thing?

All I know is, I have to meet him. And I have to protect my family.
No more hiding from the truth. The time has come to face the ones I left behind. It’s time my visions of the future—go head-on—with the demons from my past.

About Brandi Leigh Hall

Brandi lives in central Pennsylvania with her fur-ball cats (Onyx and Klepto), where she spends most of her time attached to her laptops, reading books, appeasing her sweet tooth, and watching TV for motivation.

Growing up in a haunted house inspired Brandi’s fascination with the paranormal, so it only made sense
that she’d write Urban Fantasy books for both teens and adults.

Brandi hasn’t been lucky enough to meet her soul mate (yet), so she writes paranormal tales of those who have.
Her stories combine magical elements with real-life issues, strong female characters, semi-old fashioned men and family values, woven together and told from an emotional, first-person perspective. She enjoys writing sweet stories that teach girls it’s okay to speak your mind and be independent, career-driven, and not worry about fitting in to society’s mold.

In addition to the BirthRight Novels, she also has four additional adventures she’ll be writing over the next few years, so stay-tuned.

The Dark Stone

The Dark StoneThe Dark Stone by Mark R Faulkner

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a free copy of this read for an honest review.

The Dark Stone is definitely a dark read. We meet Sam as his village is being ravaged by the plague and his family is decimated. Alone and in need of help he ventures into the village and comes across another that has been left alive. Joshua teems up with Sam as they learn to survive til Sam is rescued by Monks and Joshua is left behind. Sam finds the dark stone and only later realizes its powers.

The Dark Stone is told from Sam's perspective. We feel his anger and sadness as his family dies and then later when those he come to love are taken from him. Later when he loses his essence to the dark stone it was sad to see the changes in him and know all that he gave up to the darkness.

I love the flow of the story as we see Sam grow up and go thru so much turmoil. The story is both dark and punctuated with glimpses of hope. The ending is both expected and not expected as different aspects come together. If you love a dark and tortured world, then this is the read for you.

Needful Things

I was looking for something in the spirit of Halloween when I ran across Needful Things. What a better way to celebrate this spooky time of year than with the king of horror.

Needful ThingsNeedful Things by Stephen King

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this one right from the beginning as we are introduced to Leland Gaunt. The proprietor of Needful Things in the small town of Castle Rock. Gaunt is such an intriguing character. He is subtle in his business of lies and pranks. He has anything you could ever need and it all comes at a price. Always reminding me of that song Sympathy For the Devil.

This book really wasn't a horror story per se as the real horror is human greed which is all too real. People will kill for their possessions and put materials things often before loved ones. Gaunt has a way of playing on this greed and the price is much more than what's on the sticker.

This book, while a fun read, was quite a challenge at 700+ pages. Its not a quick read if that's what you are looking for. And there were references to prior stories that had taken place in Castle Rock that I hadn't read yet. Some I knew from movies I had seen, others I didn't get at all.

Overall, I enjoyed this one. And if you have plenty of time on your hands and enjoy a creepy read then you should try this one. This is a fun read, but by no means a quick one.

Can she trust them?
