The Only Boy Book Blast

The only boyThe Only Boy by Jordan Locke

Mary is stuck in Section One, living with three hundred women in a crumbling hospital. She wonders what life was like two centuries ago, before the Cleansing wiped out all the men. But the rules—the Matriarch's senseless rules—prevent her from exploring the vacant city to find out.

Taylor's got a dangerous secret: he's a boy. His compound's been destroyed, and he's been relocated to Section One. Living under the Matriarch means giving up possessions, eating canned food and avoiding all physical contact. Baggy clothes hide his flat chest and skinny legs, but if anyone discovers what lies beneath, he'll be exiled. Maybe even executed.

Mary's never seen a boy—the Matriarch cut the pictures of men from the textbooks—and she doesn't suspect Taylor's secret. If she knew, she might understand the need to stop the girls from teasing him. If she knew, she might realize why she breaks the rules, just to be near him. Then again, she might be frightened to death of him.

Taylor should go. The Matriarch is watching his every move. But running means leaving Mary—and braving the land beyond the compound's boundaries.

Lost and Found by Karey White

Lydia was supposed to have an adventurous and exciting summer. Instead she's done nothing more than read and eat takeout. Now it's time to go home, and what does she have to show for it? A big fat nothing. Unless, of course, her trip to the airport somehow turns into something more than just a flight home.

Blake feels like he's been sent on a wild goose chase. While work is piling up back in Denver, he's on the other side of the country, hunting for some mysterious box that his grandfather left him. Well, no more. Nothing inside that box could possibly be more important than the opportunity to make it as the youngest partner at his firm. So he's going home, and that's that. But that's before he discovers his flight has been cancelled.

When these two strangers meet at the airport, they make a split-second decision to search for the box together. Maybe with both of them on the hunt, Lydia can have her adventure and Blake can find the box. And maybe, if they’re lucky, they’ll even find some romance.

Fall Into Love

Fall Into Love (Naughty Nookie, #1)Fall Into Love by Serena Akeroyd

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received a free copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review.

This erotic short is the first in a series, that might should be an entire book instead of 60 pages here and there. However, I haven't finished them all so I will say no more about that. It is short, a taste of things to come maybe.

Fall Into Love starts out slow. Simone is cynical about love as she is trying to get past a divorce. She meets Zane and after a HOT one night stand thing take a twist that definitely is not forseen leaving us with quite a cliffhanger. Simone is one who is living in the past and we hear way too much about her ex for my liking. I want to go forward, live in the here and now. The language is also not what you would expect from southerners transplanted to NYC. We ain't so proper down here.

Overall, its not a bad read and hopefully a good start to this series. The next installments will stand on their own merits and we shall see what cums.... comes.

Prejudice Meets Pride Book Blast

Prejudice Meets Pride by Rachael Anderson Book Cover

Prejudice Meets Pride by Rachael Anderson

After years of pinching pennies and struggling to get through art school, Emma Makie’s hard work finally pays off with the offer of a dream job. But when tragedy strikes, she has no choice but to make a cross-country move to Colorado Springs to take temporary custody of her two nieces. She has no money, no job prospects, and no idea how to be a mother to two little girls, but she isn’t about to let that stop her. Nor is she about to accept the help of Kevin Grantham, her handsome new neighbor, who seems to think she’s incapable of doing anything on her own.

Fun, compelling, and romantic, Prejudice Meets Pride is the story of a guy who thinks he has it all figured out and a girl who isn't afraid to show him that he doesn't. It’s about learning what it means to trust, figuring out how to give and to take, and realizing that not everyone gets to pick the person they fall in love with. Sometimes, love picks them.

Humming of Numbers

The Humming of NumbersThe Humming of Numbers by Joni Sensel

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I thought this was quite an interesting read. Aiden is a young novice monk, getting ready to take his final vows to enter the monastery. Living in 11th century Ireland and coming from a large family, he really has few options open to him. He also has a special talent that allows him to hear numeric vibrations from everything and everyone around him. He meets up with Lana who has been drug to the monastery by her biological father, and he hears an 11. This is the highest number he has ever heard from a person. He soon learns there is much more to her besides an 11.

After meeting Lana, a raid by Vikings is thrown into the mix and this gives a little drama and adventure to the story. We learn more about Lana and Aiden through all this but its never really explained why he hears numbers. Quite possibly its a form of synesthesia which really could not be explained at this time in history.

Overall, I really enjoyed this YA book. Even with the violence its not too over the top for the age group. It drew me in from the beginning and I had difficulty putting it down.

Baby's Got Back

Baby Got Back: Anal EroticaBaby Got Back: Anal Erotica by Rachel Kramer Bussel

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a free ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Wow, what a collection! This book certainly covered the entire spectrum of erotica and all of them were worth reading. Whatever your erotic reading desires this one is sure to please. Everything from m/f couples wanting to add some spice to the bedroom to m/m couples looking to change things up, this book has everything in between.

My favorite story was about the woman in the bookstore that was searching for a way to enjoy sex after being diagnosed with endometriosis. HOT! to say the very least.

Every story contained in this anthology is well written and no two are alike. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading erotica.

Life in the Palace Book Blast

Life in the PalaceLife in the Palace by Catherine Green

“We need to talk,” Tal said. Then I knew it was going to go badly. ‘We need to talk’ is the conversational equivalent of walking into your basement without turning on the light, on a dark and stormy night, when a known psychopath is on the loose. You might as well cut to the chase and slit your own throat.

Chloe Diaz assumed three things: that when Tal said that she was one of The People sent from heaven to maintain the cosmic balance, it was code for ‘I’m a pamphlet distributing, incense burning, religious weirdo;’ that the gorgeous Seth Wilks would never be her soul mate and that she’d never have to choose between them. Chloe was wrong.

In Cambri’s life, mistakes were like boomerangs. She’d make them, regret them, and launch them as hard and far as she could to get away from them. Then suddenly, after she thought they were long gone, they would come sailing back to thunk her hard on the chest.

Like now.

Cambri could practically hear the figurative boomerang whooshing toward her as recognition dawned on Jace’s face—the kind of recognition that came when seeing someone from your past you’d rather not see.

“Hey, Jace,” was all she could come up with to say. She clutched the pruning shears, frantically trying to think of something more. “Long time no see.”

He glanced at the shears, and a few awkward seconds passed before he responded. “Yeah, long time.”

“I was just, uh . . .” Cambri brushed a few dried leaves off the shears and held them up—“trying these out. They’re sharper than I expected. I’ll take them.”

“Will you take the hose too, or was it the sprinkler head you were also trying out?”

Missing Lily Cover Reveal

Coming May 15th

missing lily

Missing Lily by Annette K. Larsen

“You don’t know who I am,” I whispered. He didn’t move—either away from me, or closer—and after an interminable moment, I stepped back and hurried out of the house.

He didn’t follow me as I fled into the night.

Lylin was not used to being alone—much less alone, hurt, and lost. So when she is separated from her guard and forced to abandon her horse, she counts herself lucky to stumble upon a manor house. Still frightened by those who chased her into the night, she keeps her identity a secret, calling herself Lily as she accepts the help of kind servants, and the compassion of Lord Fallon. When they fall into an easy friendship, she wonders if her secrecy was too hasty. However, as she gets to know the manor and its residents, Lylin discovers that she’s not the only one hiding secrets, and it may be a very good thing that her host doesn’t know her true identity as a member of the royal family.

I was born in Utah, part of a crazy, fun family of nine. I grew up in Flagstaff, AZ and St. Louis, MO before striking out on my own college adventure in Virginia. I decided to try my hand at writing novels after I was married and living in Idaho. I write clean romance because it’s my favorite genre, but often difficult to find.

AnnetteI have Charlotte Brontë to thank for the courage to write novels. After being bombarded with assigned reading about women who justified abandoning either their families or their principles in the name of love, I had the great fortune of reading Jane Eyre. And that was it: finally, a heroine who understood that being moral and making the right choice was hard, and sometimes it hurt, but it was still worth it. After rereading it several years later, I realized that if I wanted more books to exist with the kinds of heroines I admired, then I might as well write a few myself. My books are about women who face hard choices, who face pain and rejection and often have to face the reality of sacrificing what they want for what is right. The consequences are often difficult or unpleasant, but in the end, doing what’s right will always be worth it.

I believe there is no substitute for good writing or good chocolate. Fortunately, one often leads to the other.

Mate of the Tsatrya

Mate of the TsatryaMate of the Tsatrya by Ann T. Ryan

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The premise behind Mate of the Tsatrya is all about angels and demons: an angel was seduced by a demon and produced the Tsatrya. That sounds like an awesome story. Why did we not get that story? But instead, all these millennia later, we get this story about a guy who falls in love with a Tsatrya leader. The story surrounds the love story between Joseph and Mykael and there is very little world building to go along with it.

The characters of Joseph and Mykael are ok characters. Joseph is human and has never considered himself to be homosexual but finds himself in love with Mykael. But he doesn't dwell on this as a personal issue, he gets passed it pretty easily (too easily to be believed.) Mykael is a very strong character, used to doing what he wants when he wants and is very dominant. Likewise, the sex scenes with Mykael and Joseph were also pretty one sided and mostly the same. (view spoiler) Also, the side characters are there but not really important to the story. They could have added much more to it.

It all left me with a lot of questions. Questions about their history and their world as well as the stories of Jess and Gilliam. Overall, it was an ok read but had the potential to be much more.

Witch Song

Witch SongWitch Song by Amber Argyle

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is an interesting take on witches. Set in a world where witches control the changing of the seasons and the growing of crops and even the wind currents, Brusenna finds that she is the last after all have been captured by an evil witch. In this book, witches achieve their results by singing their spells, and usually with seeds instead of potions or wands.

In this world women have all the power and men are only protectors. There are no worlocks. And while I am all for the empowering women, I still find this a bit sexist as it completely negates half the population.

Brusenna's protector and love interest is Joshua: strong, handsome, brave, and supportive. Brusenna, while being a strong female character, sees herself as just the opposite. She believes herself to be inadequate and can't believe that Joshua could ever love her. And she has been thrust into a society that she has no understanding of because her mother has kept her hidden from it.

Overall, I liked the story. There is more intrigue woven in that is subtle and you don't realize til the ending because not all is as it seems.
