Valley of Dust

Valley of DustValley of Dust by Karoleen Vry Brucks

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received a free copy of this in exchange for my honest review.

When I first started reading this book I had my doubts about whether or not I would like it. But by the time I was done I did like it. I would even probably stretch this up to 3.5 stars because the underlying story definitely has an original twist to it and I liked the direction it was taking by the end.

Its difficult to talk about this book without giving spoilers but I shall do my best to do just that. It certainly was not what I expected, not that that is a bad thing. From the blurb on the back I expected to be reading about the Fey but that isn't the case. Selene is an unusual child that grows up feeling unloved and unwanted by her family and had no friends except for a man that watched over her in her dreams. When she grows up and is saved from an attacker by a mysterious vigilante she is drawn into a world where she finds she is a part of. And in the process she is torn between the two brothers that have been watching over her. In the midst of this we learn about the hierarchy of these beings that live amongst us and its a bit confusing to me just how its all supposed to work. Also the characters themselves are a bit 2 dimensional and they seem to just accept things a little quicker than most real people would. They do however seem to grow and evolve a bit by the end of the book.

Overall, I did like the book. Its in some ways a very typical teen paranormal romance with a twist that helps it stand out. I think most teen girls would find this a read they would enjoy.
