Interview with author Robert Renaud

I would like to introduce Robert Renaud author of The Time Trading Guru. I appreciate you stopping by for an interview and offering a giveaway of your book. Up for grabs is an ecopy in PDF format of one copy of  The Time Trading Guru.

 

Please tell us a bit about yourself.


I’m a life enthusiast and dreamer, with a wife and three wonderful kids. I leverage time trading between working as an executive and raising a family to living life to the fullest and becoming personally fulfilled in the process. I’ve lived my dreams from dancing with a princess, living as a millionaire, being a cartoonist, to becoming a traveller. Yet, throughout it all I have dared to ‘live’ today, and not postpone life to sometime in the future. My book details the time trading formula to give you a blueprint to how you can live your life more fully.
Please tell us about your book.
Absolutely, The Time Trading Guru is about using the levers of life: time, flexibility, and money and the DREAM process that provides steps to goal setting, to take life breaks. By following this blueprint you stop postponing your life to some time in the future and begin to live life today.

How long have you been writing and when did you first become interested in time management?

I write, literally every day in the course of my work, but the focus is on business and research writing with lots of nuances and subtleties. The Time Trading Guru is far from this bureaucratic business style. In fact, I have deliberately written the book to make it easy and interesting to read. I also write a blog www.timetradingguru.com with musings on the principles of the book.


Have you had formal training or are these techniques you have developed on your own?

I would say that I’ve had quite a variety of training in this regard. It started in university through the writing of research papers to the business world where my writing transformed to business writing. I’ve had more than enough business communications people “tell” me how to write, spin, and duck. Then, during my project to write The Time Trading Guru I was most fortunate to find a very good editor. I was looking for someone who would tell me like it was. After some searching, I found him. My editor was Michael Garrett, Stephen King’s editor of early years. Yes, that Stephen King, and no the book isn’t a horror story. I have learned by far the most from him and for that I’m thankful. For anyone interested in pursing their writing interest, I would highly recommend that you allow yourself to take a leap of faith and embrace good communicators to make your writing better.

What inspired you to write a book about time management?

Likely my life. I grew up with some big challenges that gave me new perspectives about life and the power each of us have that we can use to control how we navigate in life. I realized that I did things people were always saying they would do in retirement. They were always postponing living their dreams to some time in the future. So, I decided to write and share my formula to living life and becoming personally fulfilled, all without having to give up everything you have.

Have you written other books on this topic or other genre?

No, this is the first book I’ve written - I’m a newbie. Well. Actually, I must say this is my second book. My first book is The Red Tape Chronicles - a collection of my comic strip The Bureaucrats.


How long did it take to write this book?

I had the ideas locked in my head for a number of years. Then finally, after pushing myself I took the time to write down all my thoughts. In all, it took me about 4 months to write the book.

Do you have any other projects in mind at this time?

Yes, I always have things in mind. I’m currently collecting my thoughts for another potential book, but the ideas are still quite immature. But, I certainly see a sequel to the book in the short future.

Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Absolutely, I write, work like you, and help people become time traders all over the world. Raine roused, guessing that he still lived since he felt pain. He ignored the throbbing in his head and cheek and braved the light, lifting his heavy eyelids. He was on his back on a bunk, his arms spread out above him with his wrists handcuffed and tied to the cables. Suddenly feeling defenseless, he yanked forcefully on the ties.

“Well, well, alias Raine Nicks. We shall soon learn who you really are.”

He made certain that his fury was on his face when he finally looked at her. His breath caught. The princess sat within the chair in the main cabin, mocking him with her brilliant, dark-blue eyes. She wore the red gown—the one from his travel bag—seeming like she was aflame. Her golden hair spilled about her, and she was at ease with one leg curled up beneath her, the other bent and showing a tempting calf and foot. She dangled her arm over her knee, and in her hand was his weapon. Slowly, she glanced back and forth from the M-5 to him, and each time she met his gaze she was a bit more pleased with herself.

Smugly, she asked, “Or, would you like to give me your confessions now?”

Raine suppressed an infuriated sound and turned away from her stunning beauty. Truly, the woman was incorrigible.

She laughed smoothly, but he didn’t acknowledge her, even when she came to stand before him, filling his nose with her unique blue rose scent.

“Defiant, still? Will you be as silent before your executioner?”

“Execution, is it?” he rasped.

“Perhaps. Or maybe I will lock you up in a cage for the rest of your life. I’m not sure which will do my heart best. I can’t decide,” she considered, as lightly as if she debated about what to wear for a day. “I could keep you in a cage until I decide the date of your execution. Ah—either way you’ll find out soon enough. You’ll have a grand reception on Adriel. My father knows I’m coming. I sent him a message.”

“You did,” he said, flatly.

“I did.”

Raine’s mind raced—he knew that he was in trouble. “Do you know how to pilot a ship? It takes skill and training ... Set me free, or you may never see home again.”

She began to amble about. “I have the skill and I practically have trained myself. I will see my palace. And what a glorious reunion it will be! The princess royal—abducted, ravished and humiliated—returning home triumphant. With a prize! Once a ferocious savage that struck fear in a nation, now a meek little coward.”

“The princess talks mighty bold with a gun in her hand.”

“And why not? I finally have you where I want you. How the roles can change—you won’t even look at me! Perhaps you can’t bear the sight of the woman who has bested you?”

Raine took the challenge. She was at the foot of the bed, standing akimbo. She raised a golden eyebrow and airily tossed back her hair, and on her crimson lips was a chilling smile, one so out of place on such a beautiful face.

“See,” she taunted. “See the one who has conquered you.”

His eyes widened as she seductively ran the weapon down the front of the luminous, flame-hued dress, stopping at the hip. Her décolleté threatened to spill her full breasts free, putting him in a dangerous position. His desire stirred, even while she pointed the M-5 at him.

“So, what’s it like to be afraid?” she asked, closing one eye and aiming at his breast.

“My greatest fear is the loveliness of my captor. Come to me,” he crooned.

She laughed softly. “Never! Fear me in your dreams!”

Raine clenched his fists while she moved for the bridge’s door. Before disappearing beyond it, she added insult to his injury by blowing him a saucy kiss.

Sarra tossed the gun carelessly onto the command chair. She stalked to and fro around the bridge, miffed at him for showing no cowardice. There had been contempt and lust in his expressions, but not the tiniest trace of worry. What would it take to make him admit defeat?

And, he hadn’t even commented about the dress— “I’ll be damned if I ask him about it!”

She lifted his bag onto the chair and hesitantly pulled out the black lingerie—this was what truly troubled her. “The honeymoon gown,” she whispered, running her hand carefully across the fragile mesh. “Tolly Kay had said that the style was all the rage.”

Sarra knew how she would look in the dark outfit, for she had seen it on her image in the clothier’s hologram. Still, she wondered how it would feel. It seemed like ages ago when she had shuddered to think that Taylor Gray would find pleasure with this kind of lingerie. So much had happened since then; she was no longer a virgin or a girl. She wanted to wear it for a true man, to have his powerful, large hands rip it off her ...

“No!” she whispered vehemently. “I’m going home!”

She deposited the garment on the floor and went to the port. As she watched the lights of space, the more unpleasant consequences of her freedom invaded her head. Lord Gray was still her betrothed ... Raine’s fate ... How could she imprison him for forever but keep herself away? How could she bear locking him up, when even now, with him all bound and defenseless, she yearned to go to him, and ...

Simply, she would have to be strong. She was the princess royal and she had her responsibilities. He was her prisoner now and she would treat him as such. But, she couldn’t leave him like that all the way to Adriel!

“Careful, Sarra, careful!”

She took up the gun, his travel bag, and the handcuff’s remote, and strode with purpose to his cell ...




About the author:

The stars have always fascinated me. When I look up at their bright sparkle, I see just how vast our universe is, filled with

billions of suns and moons and planets—and that’s just our Milky Way Galaxy alone—and there are hundreds of billions of galaxies out there! And whether spiral, elliptical, or irregular, I believe every one of them is teeming with life—there are, no doubt, other planets similar to ours, and mysteries of unfathomable magnitude. I think of how nice it would be to have the technology to go out there. Wouldn’t it be great to live in a time when space flight between the stars is possible?

Can you tell us about the journey that led you to write your book?

On a recent trip to the South of France, my husband and I met a successful romance novelist who, over a dinner at a restaurant in Marseille, suggested that I try my hand at gay erotica. She said her gay friends told her she should write some books for that genre because they felt there weren’t any decent ones out on the market. However, since she’s straight and it wasn’t her genre, she wasn’t interested. That suggestion stayed with me and, after a few months, I acted on it.
In the past few years I have had in the back of my mind the idea of writing a book. Granted whatever story I thought was there was not based on gay erotica. But none the less, it was there.
My professional career for the last 30 years has been in the field of human resources. It afforded me the ability to see the various sides of people. For example, how they handle change and have an unending desire to hold on to the anger of past hurts and disappointments. Two issues I address in my book. I’ve since ended my career in human resources, focusing on writing the next book in the series.

Can you tell us about the story behind your book cover?

The main graphic on the cover is a male figure. This figure can represent one of two male characters in the book, Ryan Kinkaid or Nicholas Walsh. In each case, the characters are unfulfilled until this certain summer where love and contentment gives life and color, uplifting their spirits.

What approaches have you taken to marketing your book?

Writing and publishing is all new territory for me. Marketing the book is something I am still working on. My publisher helped by setting up my website and I’m telling everyone I know and come in contact with about my book.

What book on the market does yours compare to? How is your book different?

I think my book is unique in that if you take away the sexual aspect of it, there would still be a decent story there. Many books on the market that I have read in this genre are based solely on sex acts, which meet the needs of a large percentage of their readership.

What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?

I don’t know if it’s a quick, but I do not outline the book beforehand. I let the story happen as I write it.

Open your book to a random page and tell us what’s happening.

Ryan, Lauren and Jason are traveling from Manhattan to Portsmouth for the weekend. On the way they stop at a rest area in Connecticut to use the facilities and Jason takes care of someone else’s business (if you catch my drift) along with his own.

Do you plan any subsequent books?

Yes, this is the first in a series of at least four. The next book will be a continuation of the story between Ryan and Ty and is called Autumn Reveal.
Tell us what you’re reading at the moment and what you think of it.
I’m not reading anything at the moment. I am focusing on writing Autumn Reveal. However, when I do, I’m sure it will be one of the more popular fiction books on the market. I doubt it will be gay erotica because I don’t want to influence my writing by how another author depicts sex in their story.

A communications graduate of the City Universities of New York, and after twenty-nine years as a human resources administrator, Jay decided to apply his understanding of the complexities and foibles of the human character in a more creative way.

Like the main character, Ryan Kinkaid, Jay is a gay man who believes in love and commitment. He and his husband have been together for over thirty years and live on the West coast of Florida with their two cats. A transplant from New York, Jay continues to travel regularly to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, to connect with the New England life which he so loves.

Guest Post

The main character in Summer Spirit is 41-year-old Ryan Kinkaid. A New York City antique dealer who, throughout his adult life, has looked for that certain someone with whom he could have a loving, committed, and monogamous relationship. Some may ask, “So what’s the problem?” The problem is that in the gay world this is not as common as one may think.
As a gay man in my mid-50s, I have observed many gay “couples” who call someone their “partner.” Usually it’s the person whom they live with and share living expenses. However, their sexual lives are not exclusive. I’ve seen advances made at parties by someone in a relationship toward someone not their partner, or hear how when at a conference or the gym they hook up with someone. It is when hearing those individuals say, or do, such things I want to correct them by saying, “Don’t call him, or her, your partner. They are your roommate who you have sex with occasionally, nothing more. You’re shopping, and are only with him, or her, until you find someone better. Besides, it is demeaning to the other person to know they are not good enough.”
I’ve been chastised and criticized for this opinion. However, I certainly know I am not alone in my view, as I have met many couples who are in loving, exclusive relationships. However, if the truth be known, I think we are in the minority.
After 32 years, in 2010, my partner and I married in the state of New Hampshire. For the years prior I did not need to have a piece of paper to prove my commitment to him. I have always loved and wanted him. It is also safe to say that during those 32 years we had been through everything there is. Thereby, if you can stand up in front of family and friends and say vows of commitment to one another you mean them, because you’ve lived them, proven them.
At this time in our nation’s development, with the religious right trying so hard to shove homosexuality back into the closet and take away what few rights we have achieved over the years, gays have to work hard to promote positive relationships and dispel negative stereotypes. That piece of paper I mentioned above means everything to me.
I have written the character of Ryan Kinkaid to hold the same values as myself. He is not perfect or saintly; he has had his share of experiences. He is looking for someone who makes daily living worthwhile, someone to share life with and not be alone.
As a writer, I would like readers to be able to connect with my characters. I try hard to have them be realistic. I welcome any comments from readers on my book, your views on my characters and the relationships I portray. You can contact me through my website.

Author Alecia Stone







Alecia Stone is the author of Talisman Of El (Centrinian, 2012), the first book in the Talisman Of El trilogy. She graduated with a BA in Film & TV and has worked in television for a short period of time before branching out into storytelling. Alecia loves anything and everything paranormal. Her fascination with all things supernatural sparked her obsession with books, particularly young adult fantasy fiction, which she has never grown out of. She was inspired to become an author after reading Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen at the age of fourteen.

Stay here,” he ordered.

Emmeline nodded and wrapped her arms around herself. This was it. This was how all the other witches lived out the end of their days. Cold, alone, and chained to a relentless master.

A lot of her stories and novels begin with a 'what if', and then become so much more. She loves food and dancing as well, and this is usually reflected in writing. Hailey eyed her room as she walked to the bed with a bag in hand. She had checked all five rooms; this one was the biggest room. It was also the only one with a bathroom. Nice, she thought, when she had seen it. Someone else’s bags were in here, but she tossed them out. Only she deserved to be here.
Her lips curved into a seductive smile as she eyed her purple lacy panties. Perhaps Flow deserves these. Her smile deepened. He still can have it if he chooses to, she giggled with the thought. She wanted him.
She pulled out her make-up kit, and bottle of bubble bath. She walked to the connected bathroom and set the bubble bath on the edge of the Jacuzzi tub. His family really does have good taste, she silently complimented. Her feet slowed as she came to the sink. On the edge of it was a razor. Her head tilted. Fear wrapped around her heart. Stop being silly, it’s a razor. It probably belongs to whomever had this room before me.
She was still uneasy as she looked down at it. She forced her shoulders to relax. Silly, she scolded herself. Forcing her hand out, she picked the black thing up. It felt cold and wet. Her brows fell as her hand released it. It landed in the sink. Her eyes grew as she stared at the bright blood on her hands. Her eyes slid up, stopping on a bottle of pills. Her breath stopped. On its label read: Valium, Dayrit Hailey, 1000-mg. They were her pills.
Her head snapped up, meeting her own fear filled eyes. Flashes crossed her memory. The padded room that lit up as the lighting shot up to the sky. A thin, cold sheet wrapped around her body, as nurses approached her with needles.
“No,” she said as she shook her head. She dropped her make-up kit. “This can’t be happening.” Fear watered her eyes as she ran out of the room. She ran from her memories. Escaping to the bottom floor to get some answers.
