Bud's Christmas Wish

Thanks to author Ashley Nemer for sending us this great guest blog post just in time for Christmas!

If a dream is a wish your heart makes, can it hear those things we want even if we don’t know what they are? When sorrow brings young Lucy home to a land full of mystery, steeped in tradition and colored with unspoken magic, she finds herself reevaluating her life and her own place in it. Things are never what they seem, and people are seldom what you THINK them to be if all you base it on is what your eyes see and not what your soul speaks. There’s a fine line between destiny and duty, but when both are blended with love, who knows what miracles can occur at Christmas?

Christmas…so much pressure. Do you have any idea what it’s like to grow up being told that you are promised to someone already for marriage? Someone you haven’t even met?
Welcome to me life. Me name is Bud Doran and my granddad made a deal with Alastar to marry me off to his granddaughter Lucy. I was told she was pretty…But ya know what the odds are of that bein’ true. Every granddad thinks his grandkids are cute. Alas, this is what was laid out for me. I am a Doran and this is what we do, live by our word. Giving ya word doesn’t just stop with the giver, it passes through the lines. So my granddad gave it, me father gave it and now I have.
The courtship started when I picked her up from the airport. Me hands were shakin a bit. I tried to hide it, I think it worked. Lucy was coming back home to Ireland to care for her grandparents, they were ill. Especially Alastar. Was a sad moment yet when she walked up to me my heart spun. She was a knock out. Her blonde hair flowed down her back. –sigh- I wanted to touch it.
I took her to her family home and that’s when Alastar told me there will be no getting out of the promise. I had ta win her over.
She got a job at the pub; lucky for me I loved the pub. Was a right frequenter I was. I didn’t glutton myself but I had a good time. I watched her carefully; she moved with grace and skill, she was an Irish woman by birth but an American by appearance. She baffled me. The way she spoke, her words, that accent.
Man o man I was a gonner. They thought it would never work, they told me I was crazy for trying.
“Ya can’t woo her, she’s Americanized. She won’t care about tradition and promises.” That’s what they told me. But I knew in me bones she was gonna be mine. The magic and miracles that happen in Ireland will surprise you.
So this is me giving you insight and backstory into Bud’s Christmas Wish (I’m Bud if ya missed that.) I hope ya pick it up, everyone needs a bit ta Irish love in them at Christmas time. Start a fire and grab a blanket, find out if she did indeed become me mate.
